It is important to get children into the habit of writing thank you notes as early as they are developmentally ready. As a parent, it is essential to have your children write the note, rather than you. The act of physically writing the note forces children to consider the person who has taken the time to think of them. This makes gifts more meaningful to children. It also gives them an appreciation for the time and thought that goes into purchasing a gift.
Sometimes it can be difficult to motivate children to write a thank you note. A great way to get your children inspired to write a note of appreciation is to turn it into a fun craft project. Create a custom photo thank you featuring your children and the gift that they have received. Your children will have fun designing and creating a custom thank you and the recipient of the thank you will know that the gift was truly appreciated.
How to Make Free Customized Photo Thank You Notes
Younger children will need your help with this project but older children can do this one on their own. Here’s how to do it:
You will need the following items:
- Digital camera
- A computer with the digital software installed
- Printer
- Paper (white, colored or patterned, this is subjective, get creative!)
How to make the thank you:
- Take a digital picture of your child with the gift. (If it is clothing, have the child wear the item.)
- Download the picture to your computer.
- Insert the picture onto a blank document. Make sure to center the document using the “center” icon on your toolbar so the picture centers at the top of the page.
- Get creative. If you have some computer savvy, insert a border around the page to add a special touch.
- Write the thank you. Depending upon your preference, the body of the thank you can either be hand written or typed. The signature should be handwritten.
If you are feeling less creative there are websites that allow you to upload your photo into an existing template for free. HP offers free create and print downloads and Hallmark and SmileBox offer free ecards, which means that you send the thank you electronically via email.
Getting your children to write thank you notes will be easy with this great custom thank you project. This activity will keep the kids busy while teaching them the importance of writing a note of appreciation.
